Yulena brings with her a broad experience in anti-counterfeiting and all aspects of IP litigation. She completed her law degree with Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Venezuela in 1996, and obtained a Diploma in Legal Translation from Universidad Metropolitana in 1998.
She initiated her legal career with Bentata Hoet & Asociados in 1995, the largest IP law firm in Venezuela. In 2000, she joined the Litigation Department of English law firm Denton Wilde Sapte in London, England. She formed part of the group of litigation and arbitration lawyers that moved in January 2002 as a team to set up Mayer, Brown & Platt’s (subsequently Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw) Litigation Practice Group in London, England. She also worked at the London offices of Hunton & Williams as an Associate in the Litigation and Arbitration Group that was created.
In 2004 she returned to law firm Hoet Peláez Castillo & Duque (formerly Bentata Hoet & Asociados) in Venezuela, and in 2008 joined Saint Michael Consulting.
She is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA); International Bar Association; Caracas Bar Association; Lawyer’s Social Security Institute (Inpreabogado); Young International Arbitrators’ Group of the London Court of International Arbitration; Founder Member of the Iberoamerican Law Society of the University of London; Ex-President and Vice-president of the Venezuelan Chapter of the World Association of Young Jurists and Law Students.
